Hilltop Heights Farm, founded in 2005, is located in the foothills of the Yuba River Watershed in Nevada City, CA. Because of the unique terrain and proximity to the river drainage, Nichols Baughman has been able to carefully use age-old organic farming techniques and ancient regenerative wisdom to invigorate the soil and native species habitat, while protecting precious resources. This approach provides resilience from pests, fire and drought, while supporting beneficial species and microbial health for flourishing crops.
As Nichols passionately states, “When plants are able to reach their maximum potential through natural resource utilization, magic happens!” Evident on the Hilltop are the prevalence of native species, thriving populations of beneficial species, and wilderness habitat that are the keepers of the farm. “Plants and animals have inherent wisdom and much to share. If we listen, we learn how to be in harmony with nature.” Utilizing regenerative farming practices, Hilltop Heights Farm cultivates calendula, arnica, chamomile, ashwagandha, mint, lavender, elderberry, rose hips and an abundance of wild crafted native botanicals such as bay, palo santo, lilac, madrone, manzanita, fir, cedar, and sugar pine. Heritage Farmed uses many of these plants, flowers and herbs as ingredients in its products. “There is abundance all around us. Now we just have to remember how to thrive.”
Morning Rock Farm is located in Grass Valley, CA on rolling oak-studded grass land that was once tended by the indigenous people of the area. Since the 1849 Gold Rush, the area has been used for cattle ranching and agriculture. Morning Rock Farm is using permaculture techniques to revive and strengthen the natural web of life and fertility of the soil. The farm organically grows the red mini-roses whose dried petals are used in Heritage Farmed’s Love Bath Bomb and Love Bath Salts.
